Dalden The Huntsman


“Dalden The Huntsman” is fantasy creation, he is 60 cm tall, he has been lovingly carved by myself from the finest linden wood and preserved in bees wax. I love to paint my marionettes with oil paint as it allows the natural grain of the wood to shine through beautifully. His costume is made from pure silk recycled Indian sarees with beautiful jewel like colours. His head covering is from butter soft leather and he is decorated with a sword and trumpet made from metal possibly brass.
The pictures are taken at Dalden Tower a medieval fortified Manor house, not far from our English home. We imagine him being the hunter for this household hundreds of years ago. Not sure of the buildings age, but it was given to the Bowes family in 1375, it is in ruins, but still an historic listed building.

Lester The Jester


The Unique Marionette ,,Lester The Jester” is fantasy creation, he is 55 cm tall, he has been lovingly carved by myself from the finest linden wood and preserved in bees wax. I love to paint my marionettes with oil paint as it allows the natural grain of the wood to shine through beautifully. His costume is made from pure silk recycled Indian sarees with beautiful jewel like colours and butter soft leather . His head is covering with the same soft leather and he is decorated with tinkly jingle bells.
Lester is a cheeky chap with a warm heart, he would hold court anywhere and be the life and soul of the party. His photo shoot took place on my work bench, Seaham Harbour Marina, and the fantastic Penshaw Monument outside of Sunderland.
Where ever possible I like to use natural materials preferably recycled, making my own costumes, gives me more freedom to express the unique character of each marionette and capture its personality.

Iroquois


The Unique Marionette ‘’Iroquois” is fantasy creation, he is 55 cm tall. He is named Iroquois in recognition of the Native American tribes who carved faces onto masks and even trees. The false faces used to scare bad spirts away, this is my interpretation of their art not a copy. He has been lovingly carved by myself from the finest linden wood and preserved in bees wax. I love to paint my marionettes with oil paint as it allows the natural grain of the wood to shine through beautifully. His costume is made from butter soft leather and unusually recycled fur for his collar.

The pictures are taken at The Blast Beach Seaham that was used to dump coal waste from 1968 to the early 1990s, in 1992 Alien 3 was filmed there. Nature is fighting back and it is a wondrous place full of contrasts.

Schori


This Unique Marionette ,,Schori” is fantasy creation at 55 cm tall, he has been lovingly carved by myself from the finest linden wood and preserved in bees wax. I love to paint my marionettes with oil paint as it allows the natural grain of the wood to shine through beautifully. His costume is made from butter soft leather and he is decorated with a chain.

His character is wise man, who is in touch with the elements of the earth. To strengthen his connection to the Earths power, he is augmented with dark crystals. Does that mean he is evil or is he trying to understand the darker side of magic to protect the world? Time will tell.

He is never seen without his chain around his neck, another mystery because anyone can see, it isn’t gold, it looks like something he would buy from a peddler in the local market, the rumour it’s for control, but is it someone controlling him….?…

Morning Dew


The Marionette ‘’Morning Dew” is 65 cm tall, she has been lovingly carved by myself from the finest linden wood and preserved in bees wax. Her costume is made from pure silk/chiffon, my hand painted silk and she is decorated with Seaglass which I found at the beach in Seaham. LIMITED EDITION MARIONETTES

From time to time I offer marionettes which are a limited edition, meaning these marionettes will only be created up to the pre decided number then they will no longer be available. These Marionettes will be supplied with a numbered certificate.

Rulandus 1-4/20 Limited Edition


Rulandus (50 cm tall) is from my imagination, I am trying to bring the feel of the dark arts. He is a Marge an Alchemist locked away in dark rooms in some rich man’s house, making poisons and
metals, maybe even gold. He is a secret man who you would not want as your friend, but you really would not have him for an enemy (not for long anyway).

He is hand carved in Linden wood, preserved in melted bees wax, before been hand painted with oil paints. The costume is made of soft leather and recycled Indian silk. He is a Limited Edition and so far he is 1 -4/20, there may be more…

Coloured Boy 1 and 2 Limited Edition


I am really excited to share my Blue Boy (60 cm tall) 1/5 and Red Boy (60 cm) Limited Edition 2/5, they are hand carved and finished to the same high standard as all my marionettes, I use bees wax to preserve the wood and then I finish them with oil paint.

I have been really lucky to find a supplier of fantastic recycled silks in India, they have an unbelievable range of colours and patterns which have given my latest work a real boost. The colours are bright and vibrant and work with the oil paints to bring the marionettes alive. The rest is made up of soft leather in the usual way and decorated with real feathers. (The Peacock feathers may not be available in all colours.)

Red Boy was created to order and he will live in America with his brother Blue Boy. There will not be another in theses colours but maybe green, purple, yellow… claim your colour let you imagination run WILD.

My Glove puppets have been lovingly carved by myself from the finest linden wood and preserved in bees wax. I love to paint my work with oil paint as it allows the natural grain of the wood to shine through beautifully. Their costume is usually made from cotton velvet, the collar is from recycled Indian sari with beautiful jewel like colours and the hats is from butter soft leather. Their head and hands are solid linden wood, the size of head is approx. 12 cm, the approximate length of the Glove Puppet is 45 cm. They come in a variety of different faces and colours.

My Marottes have been lovingly carved by myself from the finest linden wood and preserved in bees wax. I love to paint my work with oil paint as it allows the natural grain of the wood to shine through beautifully. The collar is made from recycled Indian sari with beautiful jewel like colours, I also used beautiful Cumbrian wool from Kendal, their hats are made from butter soft real leather, sometimes decorated with jingle bells. Their head is approx. 12 cm solid linden wood, their stand and head together including their hat is 35 cm. They are coming with different faces and colours.
